The Workforce, Career and Technical Education Division is responsible for the provision of service, support, and resources to Mississippi’s fifteen community and junior colleges, in order to facilitate the Boards’ goals of:
1)
Providing workforce training and career and technical education to the people of Mississippi, thereby ensuring they have the 21st century skills needed to get jobs, retain jobs, advance in those jobs, and have an improved quality of life;
2)
Providing current and prospective employers of Mississippi a documented trained and educated workforce,
enabling our state to retain and grow existing businesses and industries and attract new ones; and
3)
Providing assistance to Community and Junior College’s Workforce, and Career and Technical Education Divisions in order to promote effective communication, efficient use of state resources, and improved educational outcomes through program assessment and accountability.
To achieve these goals, the Workforce, Career and Technical Education Division works collaboratively with the community and junior colleges, the Mississippi Department of Education, the Research and Curriculum Unit of Mississippi State University, the State Workforce Investment Board, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, businesses and industries, the Office of the Governor, the Legislature, and other state agencies that share the mission of promoting economic development in Mississippi.

Workforce Education
Our fifteen community and junior colleges are the workforce training providers of choice in Mississippi. Noncredit workforce education enables the colleges to respond to local labor market demands by meeting the workforce needs of current and future employers, as well as the needs of individuals for short-term skills training.
There are over 130 unique credit-based career and technical education programs at the various community and junior colleges, comprehensive centers and extension centers throughout the state. These programs range from less than one year in length to two years in length, and prepare individuals for employment in a variety of occupations.
A Mississippi Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a credential based upon the WorkKeys® assessments that substantiate
to employers that an individual possesses the basic workplace skills required for 21st century jobs.
The Community College Board is charged with ensuring that federal Civil Rights laws and policies are complied with at all times at the Agency (MCCB) and at Mississippi's fifteen (15) Community and Junior Colleges. In addition, MCCB promotes overall awareness and understanding of compliance responsibilities at the Community and Junior Colleges on the behalf of the Federal Department of Education and the Office for Civil Rights.
